Future's Past

Curtains

Stop remembering,
I yelled at the car,
At the camera-flash-bulb,
The backseat faces.

I don’t photograph people,
Not then and rarely now,
Spend too much time with mirrors
Looking at what was and what is,
like sand before it falls,
before time.

Once, I traded money for photographs.
I didn’t call it pornography then
And I don’t call it that now,
Chances are, I won’t call it that
Later because
It never happened that way
Or this.
Because it never happened
Unless you count the time in the driver’s seat
And back then, I was just driving
And yelling,
Yelling at people to stop remembering.
Yelling
Because it was slowing us down.

Adventure

Happiness Beware

Beads collect on my forehead
And it’s okay because
They only accept cash
And that’s all I’ve got, in a marginal sense.

I’m dancing,
Listening and dancing
Alone
And it’s okay because
I don't grow red.
Some people might,
I’m just not one of them.

Now spinning
in a universal sense because
Any other sense is beside the point.
So here I go,
Wearing wrinkles.
